After watching my children start in the sport and realizing I needed to stop just observing and join them to get more active, I decided to step on the mats in January of 2019. I began taking classes and learning from then purple belt, Tom Rodriguez and then brown belt, Rob Kitchell (now both black belts). I received my blue belt in September of 2020. In 2021, I migrated to Argyle Jiujitsu Academy to study under Professor Paul Gilman and received my purple belt in December of 2022. During an open mat at Argyle, is when I met Professor Tristan Ghazal. The three of us now are not only training partners, but business partners, and more importantly, friends. Though I consider myself a hobbyist, I have competed many times and have wins at each belt so far. Because I got started with jiujitsu late in life and yet have found it so rewarding, my goal is to be an ambassador to the sport and help make this gentle art more accessible to people of all ages, as well as their families.
